From time to time I also enjoy writing short stories. They are all very different. Some even a bit weird. Some are a reflection of the hopelessness I have experienced at different times, while others reflect my hope and ideals. Some of my stories are a clear reflection of issues I was working through at the time. All are a written expression of some part of who I am.
We are all a mixed bag. Just look at the book of Psalms. If David was able to express his despair and hope, then we can too. What is important, for David, me, and you—is that we not let the feelings of despair and hopelessness overwhelm us. There is so much more to life than we can see with our eyes. We know this in our hearts—but our feelings get in the way.
I’ll never forget a trip I made to an Amish town a few years ago. I bought a small wooden plaque that seemed to say it all:
Faith is not belief without proof,
but trust without reservations.
I hope that you will find something in at least one of these stories to help you meditate on the wonderful hope we have in God through His son Jesus.
If you would like to reuse a story, or share it with others, please let me know; I usually give permission and ask only that appropriate credit be given if you print them for purpose (non-profit only).
